The Citroën SM was initially assembled at Citroën's famous Quai de Javel factory in the heart of Paris.  The factory has now been demolished and replaced with a park named after Andre Citroën.

Later SMs were assembled by Ligier at Abrest, although there is now some controversy over just how many and from what time.  Some suggesting that most export cars were produced by Ligier.

The bodies were built by Sté des Usines Chausson before being shipped to Citroën for painting trimming and assembly.  The photos below show  bodies at various stages in the construction process.

The engines of course were constructed by Maserati at Modena in Italy.  Here you can see completed engines awaiting shipment, the gearbox sub assembly and a general view of the workshops.

Photos of SM production at Quai de Javel are rarer still, here are two showing the final assembly

Style Auto
The pictures of the body construction can be found in Style Auto an Italian journal from September 1972.
